VMUF team bags national track and field overall crown

 

        The Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation Boys and Girls Team here powered by eighteen mainstays and eight recruits, amassed a total of 101 points to capture the overall championship in the Junior Division of the 1999 National Invitational Track and Field Competition in Manila April 28 to May 1, 1999.

        Mr. Marcelino M. Doņa, VMUF Sports Director and coach  in the Boy's Category the VMUF won 1st place outclassing 38 local teams and one foreign team. It placed 4th place in field of 34 local teams and 2 foreign teams in the Girls' Category.

        Marvin Cacho, a second year Computer Science student broke the standing record for juniors in the 110-meter hurdles to win the gold . Maricel Ramos, a BS Physical Education and Sports student won the gold in heptathlon.

        Cacho erased Rene Gabuat's 15.7 seconds record in the 1992 National Open Invitational Track and Field Competition by clocking 15.6 seconds.

        Dr. Ma. Lilia P. Juan, president of VMUF, congratulated Mr. Marcelino Doņa and his assistant, Mr. Nicanor Canales, VM College of Sports Coordinator and the VMUF Track and Field Team for bringing honor to the University and maintaining the university's standing in sports leaderships especially in track and field events.
